Our First Year…
Border Terrier Lifeline has been fundraising for a year – we started in August 2021, launching our website btll.co.uk in November 2021.
In that time, we have raised funds through various initiatives such as card sales, online (Facebook) auctions, Companion Dog Shows, sponsored runs, selling BT-themed items at dog shows or BT events.
We have been instrumental in requesting and negotiating a research project specifically into Border Terriers and Gall Bladder Mucocele (over half the cost of which was donated by one of our committee). The research project is headed by a UK registered charity and will be launched this autumn.

We have also set aside funds for two research projects (currently in the planning stage) both concern investigation into aspects of Gall Bladder Mucocele which have been high-lighted to us. These projects are currently awaiting ethical approval by the RVCS and BTLL have pledged assistance on both projects and will be advancing the funds to support the work on these projects as soon as the clearance has been given. It is likely that at least one of these will commence in Autumn 2022.
Progressing research into CECS – Canine Epileptoid Cramping Syndrome (also sometimes known as paroxysmal gluten-sensitive dyskinesia (PGSD)) has been more frustrating at times. We have raised funds for this research, but our own investigations have led us to believe that due to a number of factors, the pandemic and the AHT going into liquidation the research into this condition has been put temporarily on hold. We understand that this could recommence when funding (in sufficient amounts) becomes available. This has led to us sponsoring other aspects of CECS research. We have approached a well-known independent researcher and offered to help sponsor some of the trials that are being undertaken currently. BTLL have now offered funds and this will be transferred in the coming weeks as and when requested.
